What I'm Working On

I used Trish's no waste mini granny square tutorial to create these sweet granny square blocks. I love the way they turned out!  Great tutorial Trish!

I sewed them together to create this mini quilt. I have backed it and it's now waiting to have the binding tacked down by hand. Hoping to finish it Thursday, or over the weekend!

I also finished my "Do small things" embroidery. Thanks Amy for the great, free pattern and tutorial! I used my handly Easy Dresden ruler to cut out 23 wedges. Sewed the wedges together and now it is waiting to be assembled with the embroidery in the center, and hand quilted.

What fun projects are you working on?

Day Tripping

Sorry for being slightly MIA peeps! I started a new job this past week so it has been busy around these parts!

But! On Friday I had a day trip planned to a sewing center/fabric shop in Tampa to attend a meet and greet and trunk show with none other than THE Anna Maria Horner Eeep! I can hardly believe it! For 2 hours she spoke about her background, how she got to where she is today, her creative process, and her absolutely lovely fabrics and books. It was heaven. I'm still awestruck. Not only is she an uber talented artist and designer, but she is sweet as pie. Seriously. One of the nicest people I have ever met. I left the lecture feeling inspired and enlightened on so many levels. *pinch me*

Here is a picture of an absolutely amazing hand embroidery she made.  She said she strip pieced the fabric around it and then framed it for display. It was one of my most favorite things she showed us. But really. I have to be honest here...I loved every.single.thing. she showed us.

The trip would not have been complete without some major fabric shopping! Our local quilt shop closed a year ago so I take any chance I can get to "replenish" my stash. ;) Right now I am feeling really inspired to make a modern quilt with all these lovely pieces.

So what good things did you do this week??

Hello

The pets wanted to say hello.

I want to say hello too. ;) I have been busy with boring projects like cleaning out and sorting through my storage unit. Doing a bit of spring cleaning I suppose.  It amazes me how much stuff we accumulate as humans. I've reached the point that I don't want to own so much of it!

I've snuck in a little stitchy time too. ;)  Back soon with more of that!

How was your week?

This Week

I finished up this table mat. I practiced my free-motion quilting on this mat. Don't look too close!

I'm a little obsessed with making table mats! Maybe I should start something else...;)
I started stitching this little embroidery which can be found as a free download on Amy's blog! I love, love, love the way hers have turned out! And I recently acquired an Easy Dresden ruler to help make the wedges easier that frame the embroidery. If you like hand stitching the run over and check this out!
I decided that it is time to put the Farmer's Wife quilt top together. Here's a picture of an assortment of my blocks taken on Sunday. I finally sorted through them and decided which I'll use in the quilt. Sadly, some of my blocks turned out slightly smaller than 6 inches (most likely my error!) so I won't be using them in the quilt. I will however use them in a different project. Luckily (?) I have 10 of them that are too small. I'll see what I can come up with.
A small table mat perhaps? ;)

Hope you are all having a splendid week!
