Designer Puppy

Things have been so busy around chez Swing Kitten that I can hardly believe 2 weeks have passed since I last posted. Does anyone else ever feel like life is moving at a super fast pace
lately? Sometimes I feel like if I don't consciously remind myself to slow down, and take a deep breath I'll completely miss out on all the good stuff that life has to offer. I've been trying to do this more often. Something I've been missing lately is my yoga practice. I need to get back into it. Anyway, last weekend I sewed up this little dress for Lola. Exhibit A:
I found this cute fabric at Joann's with lemons and limes all over it. It's retro and summery. I couldn't decide what size to sew for her as it was difficult to figure using the measurements on the pattern envelope. My little Lola is in between sizes. I should have made the medium and not the large. But I made it work. And then I made her model it by standing on the cooler. Snazzy, I know!

I also made some delicious peach salsa. Yum! I found the crocheted doily in the photo at the thrift store on Saturday. Super win! Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I'm off on an overnight trip tomorrow night to celebrate my birthday. I feel like I'm getting so old!

1940s Shorts

Over the weekend I continued working on my 1940s shorts using the pattern shown above. I must have been working diligently because I was able to finish them! I like them very much but I will say that it seems vintage clothing never really works up to look like the drawing on the pattern envelope. I originally was interested in this pattern because I actually liked the length of the shorts in the drawing. A little bit longer...almost walking short length. Or would they be called clam diggers? In any case, after I cut out the pieces and began assembling them I realized that the shorts were a bit wide. It's not a bad thing and I realize that was the style in the forties.
It's just that the drawing indicates, to me anyway, a narrower short leg. With the wider short leg, I decided they needed to be shortened somewhat. I think I was successful in that regard. In any case, here they are! I'm looking forward to getting some good wear out of these in the Florida heat!

Something else I created this weekend were these scrumptious strawberry cupcakes with strawberry butter cream. It just may be the best.cupcake.ever. Seriously good stuff. I tend to lean towards chocolate desserts but these cupcakes leave nothing to be desired. I used the Sprinkles Strawberry Cupcake recipe that I found on the internet. The cake itself turned out moist and delicious with the faint hint of strawberry. The recipe actually calls for real or frozen strawberries, pureed, and then added to the batter. Same for the butter cream.
Coming up on my project list, a vintage dress pattern and a flock of geese throw. Only 4 more days till the weekend is here again!

I Heart Saturdays

Gosh, life keep flying by and before I know it it's been 2 weeks since I blogged anything! Life is certainly busy and sometimes I feel like time escapes me. I know I'm not the first person to say that I wish there were more then 24 hours in a day. This is part of what I love about Saturdays.
Time can slow down a bit and I can channel my creative energy; sometimes throwing myself
head first into one project or another.

I hope everyone had a nice July 4th weekend last weekend. We did here. While watching a little Barefoot Contessa I learned how to make a perfect omelette. Ina, I heart you.

Here's a look at the fruit of my labor in the kitchen. All it is is 2 eggs, beat with 2 tablespoons of milk, and some fresh herbs: parsley, tarragon, and chives. Simple and delicious!

Creatively speaking I finished 2 baby quilts and they are now listed in my shop.
For the one I used a Tula Pink charm pack in Hushabye, and the other a bunch of 5 inch squares cut from favorite fabrics in my stash. I call that one Saturday in the Park.
They were both great fun to put together!

Happy belated July 4th from Lola! Enjoy the weekend peeps!
