Pie and Fabric

I decided today that I wanted to make an apple pie. I used Martha Stewart's pie crust recipe, and filling recipe. It never disappoints! ;) I peeled 6 granny smith apples....
Mixed them with the spices, sugar, lemon rind and lemon juice....
Filled the crust...
Baked for an hour and got this! It smelled so delicious while it was baking. I am looking forward to cutting into it momentarily!

In other news, I finished 3 FWQAL blocks last week. I took this picture after it started getting dark, so I had to take it on my cutting mat. Sorry. The block in the back is most definitely not making it into the quilt. It gave me so much trouble and turned out wonky. Thankfully, the 2 blocks in the front turned out nicely!

New fat quarters always make me smile!

How was your weekend? What's making you smile these days?

Slowly

Slowly I'm plugging away at FWQAL blocks....
Slowly I finished up a Halloween project....
Slowly I'm cutting up fabric for a quilt. I'm also swooning....;)
The weeks are busy and flying by! School is keeping me busy but I'm finding some time to squeeze in a little sewing. This weekend I am taking a free motion quilting class with my friend Lauren. I'm excited to jump into the world of free motion!

How has your week turned out?

Oh....Ruby

Did you hear? Fat Quarter Shop now has yardage of Ruby in stock! I may or may not have just placed a sizeable order of it to replenish my stash. Replenish. Yes. That's what I keep telling myself.
Be still my heart. I can hardly wait for it to arrive at my doorstep!

I'll be back tomorrow with actual sewing progress. Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Homebody

If you couldn't tell already, I really am such a homebody. It seems like above all else, I'd rather be at home creating; whether in the kitchen or on the sewing machine. While reading Angry Chicken's blog, I came across a recipe for apple cake. Amy says it's delicious, and I'd have to agree with that sentiment. This apple cake is over the moon good. I baked some of the batter in a loaf pan, and put the rest in this little maple leaf pan. Amy used a bundt pan which would be fantastic, I think, but I couldn't find ours. Mmmm...good.

I'm only a *little* behind on my fwqal blocks. This is last week's finished set.
Block 37, Flowerpot, and Block 38, Four Winds. The Four Winds block took quite some time to put together. Gah! So many tiny pieces.

In other news, I'm starting my Christmas sewing. This is a pile of fabric I cut last week for a surprise gift. I can hardly believe October is here and I need to jump start my holiday sewing!
How's October treating you so far?
