Busy as a Bee

I wish I could say I've been as busy as a bee with sewing and quilting but alas, I cannot. School and interning are definitely getting in the way of my sewing time! LOL But I did carve out some time this week to sew up this bag for a friend. AM, I hope you like it!

I love the cherry print that lines the bag!

My friend requested blue and pink colors, and I had a fun time sewing this one up!

As for farmering, I have decided that I will make more of a throw-size quilt. While I enjoy sewing up these blocks, anything larger than a throw would be challenging to quilt at home on my machine. Plus, I cannot lie, I am anxious to put a quilt together from these blocks!

Clockwise from the top: Block 63 Ozark Maple Leaf, Block 69 Practical Orchard, Block 66 Periwinkle, Block 71 Puss in the Corner, and Block 61 Northern Lights.

Happy Weekend peeps! Got any exciting plans?

Warm Fuzzies

Last week I used Amanda's tutorial to create this drawstring bag. I LOVE it. Love it so much that I have the fabric ready to make another. Run on over to Amanda's blog and stitch one up for yourself! I plan to use mine to hold embroidery projects.

It's a great way to showcase some of your favorite fabrics. Plus, what a great, practical bag. You could use it to hold knitting, crochet, embroidery, your kindle or Ipad....the possibilities are endless!

Last Saturday my mom and I went to a local quilt show. It was my first quilt show believe it or not. I can't believe I haven't gone to one before. I have definitely been missing out! Aside from all the beautiful quilts on display, I was over the moon with the vendors and their fabric choices. Our local quilt store closed last year so now the majority of my fabric buying is online. To see the pretty fabrics in person was a real treat for me! So much so that I went a little overboard with my fabric buying. But.I.Couldn't.Help.It.

Eeep! Far, Far Away!!

I bought an assortment of 1/2 yard cuts. I have started to realize that 1/2 yard cuts are the most practical for the projects I sew. I am loving this one on top...I mean cute animals combined with French writing. Double eeeep!

I was so, SO happy to see some selections from Lizzy House. YAY!

Who could resist poodles! I know, I may be partial. ;)

I'll end with a couple pictures of quilts. Sorry for the quality. They were taken on my phone.

What's giving you warm fuzzies lately?

I'm Still Here

Whew! I didn't mean to take that long of a blog break but school this semester is taking up all my time. Darn school getting in the way of sewing ;). Actually I'm interning in a dental office 2 days a week, and at school 1 day a week. And when I say days, I mean 12 hour days from the time I get up until I get home. Add in all the school work, and I think I'm getting too old for this! LOL Thankfully, I finish in June so there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am also enjoying my first rotation in a pediatric dental office. It is actually quite fun!

But I digress. Last week I meant to post but sadly, didn't get around to it. So, here we are!
I finished Swoon block 4! Weeeee! Only 5 more to go. I WILL see this quilt finished in 2012. ;)
Head on over to the Swoon flickr group and check out all the lovelies people are sewing up!

I quite like the color combo in this one!
In farmering news, I sewed up 3 blocks last week. And...I sewed up block number 60 yesterday. I am more than halfway finished. I have learned so much along the way and it feels good to be committed to a long term project. It's not too late to join in! Grab a copy of the book and start sewing!

This is block 57, Morning.
Block 58, Mother's Dream.
And here we have block 59, Night & Day. What a beast to put together but also a neat optical illusion when finished!
So, what's good peeps?? Tell me what you've been up to!

I'll be back soon with new fabric goodness, and a new FO. :)

Sweetness

Last weekend I attended an antique fair at the local fairgrounds. I was pleasantly surprised to see many delightful antique items. Most of them were out of my budget but I did walk away with some sweet Victorian paper ephemera. When I lived in southern California I used to love going to the flea markets on the weekend. This is the sort of thing I would find out there.

I like to think about how these pieces of card stock were saved for so many years and wonder who had them in a scrapbook for so long. And who they were passed on to over the decades. I especially love the images with kitties!

How beautiful I think this one is of a girl at the sea shore. Ah, how romantic too.
I was so smitten with this one that I decided to incorporate it into a new banner! This is the first time I have successfully made a banner for my blog. Yay!
Last weekend I also finished up Swoon block 3! Slowly but surely getting there...

And I made 3 blocks for the FWQAL. The blocks, clockwise from the top left, are 56 Maple Leaf, 55 Linoleum, and 54 Kitchen Woodbox. I'm still not sure how many I'll end up making. Perhaps I should stop now and make throw size FWQ? Then I think I may be disappointed in myself if I don't trudge along and make all 111. That was the reason I joined the QAL after all....
I hope you are enjoying your weekend! Tell me, what's going on?

Champagne Truffle

Eeeeep! Pure cuteness! Have you heard about Amanda's Dessert of the Month cross stitch club? Price is a deal at $16.95 for 12 cross stitch designs to be delivered monthly. Hurry on over to her blog for info on how to join yourself. There's still plenty of time to get on board! :)

I stitched up this truffle over a few night's time and it was so much fun!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

I am determined to finish my Swoon quilt in 2012! I managed to finish block 2 on Wednesday. Yay! Only 7 more to go. :)

How was your week? Here's to a great weekend!

Downton and Farmering

Yay! It's 2012 and that means that it's finally time for Downton Abbey! Who tuned in last night? I was chomping at the bit all day waiting for it to start. It's definitely my most favorite thing on television. I have an aunt and uncle who live in the UK so they've already seen season 2. When they were visiting last week I said " I absolutely do not want to know what happened in season 2!" LOL.

YES!!

Downton must be taking over the world because I even saw a segment on it during the evening news tonight. *sigh* It's such a feast for the eyes. The story line is also riveting!
Lest you think I have forgotten about sewing, I haven't! I've been farmering again. It feels good to be working on these blocks again after so long. These are blocks 49, 50, 51, 52, and 53. Beginning with the top left and working clockwise are Hovering Birds, Honey's Choice, Honeycomb, Jackknife and Hovering Hawks.

I am not sure I will actually make all 111, though that was the plan when I started this QAL. The primary reason being that all 111 make a HUGE quilt. Well 83 inches by 103 inches is pretty big for me. Plus, that would be way bigger than I need for my bed. I am thinking I may go for the Twin Size quilt...73 inches by 92 1/2 inches. It requires 83 blocks so I'm only 30 away from what I need. Yay!

How's 2012 treating you so far? Good, I hope!
